CI-Net. IRIS builds leadership position with ts.com acquisition. 20 November 2008

IRIS, the largest privately owned software company in the UK, has announced the acquisition of ts.com, developers of online ticketing solutions for a wide range of ticketing requirements including festivals, sports events, theatres, visitor attractions, travel and car parking.

The acquisition marks the next stage of IRIS’ goal to expand its ticketing capabilities. Combining the existing IRIS TALENT ticketing solutions with ts.com will allow IRIS to expand its online ticketing capability beyond its major presence in large sports clubs and arenas to include important new vertical markets.

ts.com has an excellent reputation for its easy-to-use and reliable ticketing solutions and an established and loyal customer base. Notable clients include The National Trust, The Red Bull Flugtag, The Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, Arriva Group and Earl’s Court & Olympia Parking.

Glenn Jackson, Managing Director of IRIS TALENT, commented “There is huge growth potential for online ticketing simply because it is the easiest and most convenient way to purchase event tickets. The ts.com ticketing solutions are entirely complementary to our current offerings - both for smaller sports stadia and to enable us to enter a number of new vertical markets; a factor that will undoubtedly strengthen our ability to satisfy a wider range of needs.”

Mark Ellis, Managing Director of ts.com, commented “We are delighted that ts.com has become part of IRIS. For some time, we have been searching for a way to develop further as part of a larger organisation with the resources, financial backing, service commitment and culture to increase our growth rate in the online ticketing market.”

“We have been particularly impressed that in all previous IRIS acquisitions the group’s emphasis has always been on ensuring “business as usual” for existing customers and we look forward to the further development of the ts.com ticketing product range with the support and resources that IRIS can provide.”

Antenova. Antenova Adds Dual-band Wi-Fi® Antenna to gigaNOVA® Range of Standard SMD Antennas. 19 November 2008

Antenova, the integrated antenna and RF solutions company, announced the addition of Mixtus dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz antenna to the gigaNOVA® range of market proven surface mount antennas. Designed for ease of integration into wireless devices, Mixtus dual-band antenna is ideally suited for a wide range of embedded Wi-Fi enabled consumer device applications such access points, set top boxes (STBs), portable games, media gateway products, networked High Definition Digital TVs (HDTVs) and PC cards.

“Antenova’s Mixtus A10194 SMD antenna is a high efficiency dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz antenna suitable for a wide range of consumer Wi-Fi applications, including 802.11n multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) applications,” stated Greg McCray, CEO of Antenova. “Wi-Fi enabled consumer electronics are projected to reach 329 million units by 2012 and 802.11n products are expected to outpace existing technologies to become the default Wi-Fi technology of choice by equipment vendors. In the growing market of 802.11n in connected entertainment devices, networked TV shipments alone are forecasted to grow to 65 million total units by 2012. Mixtus enables Wi-Fi products to operate over the full 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, making it an ideal solution for current and next generation networked consumer products. This is of particular benefit for equipment manufacturers as consumer oriented networks evolve from mixed-mode systems to pure 802.11n systems.”

Mixtus A10194 is a highly efficient dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SMD antenna which operates over the full 2.4-2.5 GHz and 4.9-5.9 GHz bands and designed for use in all Wi-Fi applications, including 802.11n. In addition, good isolation can be achieved between two closely spaced Mixtus antennas on the same platform making it ideal for MIMO applications. Mixtus A10194 is a compact 10 x 10 x 0.9 mm3 size antenna intended for surface mounting and requires minimal ground plane. A10194 is supplied in tape on reel and available now for volume purchase through Antenova’s global network of leading distributors and agents.

Antenova offers the gigaNOVA range of market leading antenna solutions for 2.3 GHz, 2.4 GHz, 2.5 GHz, 5 GHz, GPS, GSM and ISM900 bands. gigaNOVA standard antennas are designed for easy integration into wireless devices and are the smart choice for GPS, Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi®, WiMAX™ and ZigBee® applications. Antenova also offers a full range of development support and RF testing to help reduce customization, design costs and accelerate time-to-market.

AstronClinica. Gok’s Miss Naked Beauty girls get the Beau Visage treatment. 6 November 2008

Contestants taking part in Gok Wan’s new Channel 4 beauty show were given a unique insight into the health of their skin when programme makers requested the use of Beau Visage for the show.

Beau Visage, an advanced skin imaging consultation system which looks 2mm beneath the skin’s surface, was used by Gok’s team to analyse the skin of the girl’s, who are currently fighting it out to become Britain’s Miss Naked Beauty.

The finalists were shown blown up images of their faces and their true skin age was revealed during episode three of the beauty pageant style series, currently being shown on Channel 4.

Charlotte Fionda, Head of Marketing at Astron Clinica the company behind Beau Visage: “The girls were blind folded and then one by one shown their ‘blood view’ image, which highlights problem areas such as broken veins, pigmentation, acne and rosacea. Although this was a bit of a shock for the girls, it helped them understand how healthy their skin is and we were then able to recommend how they could improve certain problem areas and take better care of their skin health in the future. This included having a Beau Visage consultation at least twice a year as part of their maintenance routine, to keep a check on their skin health and take a proactive approach towards ageing.”

“Gok and Myleene Klass were even keen to have their Beau Visage images taken and both had consultations off camera!”

Beau Visage is an advanced skin imaging system designed to educate clients on the health of their skin by analysing up to 2mm beneath its surface. Based on SIAscopy, the unique patented skin imaging technology that Beau Visage uses allows a practitioner to scientifically assess the skin’s components responsible for the way a client looks and predict how they might age.

By calculating the distribution of blood, melanin and sun damage in a client’s face, their skin age can be determined. Based on these findings a practitioner can then advise on the most suitable skincare regime and/or treatments to address any areas of concern and is therefore a key selling tool for salons and clinics. Beau Visage allows the practitioner to work with the client to track changes over time, prove the benefits of the new regime and address new problem areas as and when they occur.
